  • 2 Dead, Several Injured In Mass Shooting At Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park

A mass shooting was reported at Fairmount Park in the United States’ Philadelphia on Monday night, where two people were killed and nine others were wounded. According to police, at least two of the shooting victims are believed to be juveniles.

The incident happened around 10:30 pm on Lemon Hill Drive at Poplar Drive, local media reports said.

All nine injured in the Monday night shooting are in stable condition, police said.

A male and a female, both adults, died in the shooting, however, their age is not known yet.

A large number of adults were present at the park, according to the police.

“We have not recovered any weapons at this time,” the officer said. No arrests have been made.

“This is significant. It’s Memorial Day… we understand the significance of this event and we will make sure to provide an update on Tuesday.”

The park where the incident took place was busy during the day as people gathered for Memorial Day cookouts. Memorial Day, traditionally observed on the last Monday of May, is a federal holiday in the United States dedicated to honouring and mourning military personnel who have died in the performance of their duties.

  • North Korea Says US Golden Dome Plan Is “Nuclear War Scenario”

U.S. President Donald Trump on May 20 said he had picked a design for the Golden Dome missile defense system and named a leader of the ambitious $175 billion program.

North Korea’s foreign ministry has criticised the U.S. Golden Dome missile defense shield project as a “very dangerous threatening initiative”, state media said on Tuesday.

U.S. President Donald Trump on May 20 said he had picked a design for the Golden Dome missile defense system and named a leader of the ambitious $175 billion program.

The Golden Dome plan “is a typical product of ‘America first’, the height of self-righteousness, arrogance, high-handed and arbitrary practice, and is an outer space nuclear war scenario,” said the Institute for American Studies of North Korea’s foreign ministry, according to state KCNA news agency.

The aim is for Golden Dome to leverage a network of hundreds of satellites circling the globe with sophisticated sensors and interceptors to knock out incoming enemy missiles after they lift off from countries like China, Iran, North Korea or Russia.

  • “Have No Fear”: Trump Vows To ‘Win’ Against Harvard, Threatens Funding

US President Donald Trump vowed Monday to prevail in his clash with Harvard and again threatened to take away billions in funding from one of the world’s top universities.

“I am considering taking Three Billion Dollars of Grant Money away from a very antisemitic Harvard, and giving it to TRADE SCHOOLS all across our land,” Trump said, without giving details, in one of a flurry of texts on Monday, the Memorial Day holiday in the US.

He also brought up the issue of removing foreign students from Harvard — a key source of enrollment and tuition money for the oldest university in the US — saying he is waiting for Harvard to provide a list of these students.

Trump said he wants this list “so that we can determine, after a ridiculous expenditure of BILLIONS OF DOLLARS, how many radicalized lunatics, troublemakers all, should not be let back into our Country.”

He added: “But have no fear, the Government will, in the end, WIN!”

The Trump administration moved last week to block Harvard from enrolling foreign students, but on Friday a judge suspended the order pending a hearing this week.

Trump is furious at Harvard — which has produced 162 Nobel prize winners — for rejecting Washington’s oversight on admissions and hiring, amid his claims the school is a hotbed of anti-Semitism and “woke” liberal ideology.

Trump is attacking US universities and other sources of what he sees as left-leaning power in the country like the media as he tries to exert tight, unprecedented presidential control over life in America.

In his fight with Harvard, Trump has threatened to put $9 billion of government funding under review, then went on to freeze a first tranche of $2.2 billion of grants and $60 million of official contracts. The administration has also targeted a Harvard Medical School researcher for deportation.

  • Pak Raises India Conflict With Iran. Ayatollah Khamenei’s Measured Response

Iran and Pakistan are mending relations after airstrikes a year ago, driven by shared concerns over Gaza. PM Shehbaz Sharif emphasized peace talks with India, while Iran’s Khamenei praised Pakistan’s stance on Palestine, urging Muslim unity amid conflicts.

A year after they conducted airstrikes in each other’s territory, Iran and Pakistan appear to be burying the hatchet as Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir visit Tehran and meet the Iranian leadership.

The key factor bringing the countries together is Gaza, devastated in the aftermath of Israel’s brutal counterstrike to the Hamas attacks in October 2023. While Pakistan brought up its recent conflict with India and Kashmir, Iran’s leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, in public remarks, has only said Iran hopes disputes between India and Pakistan are resolved.

    The Gaza Unity Factor

According to a report in The Tehran Times, Khamenei has acknowledged that Pakistan has not joined the countries normalising ties with Israel in “a blatant betrayal of the Palestinian cause” despite Western pressure. “While there have been temptations for Islamic countries to engage with the Zionist regime in recent years, Pakistan has never succumbed to these temptations,” he said during a meeting with the Pakistani Prime Minister. He said the Palestine issue is the foremost concern of the Islamic world. “The situation in Gaza has reached a point where ordinary people in Europe and the United States are protesting their governments, yet unfortunately, some Islamic governments stand alongside the Zionist regime under these circumstances,” he said.

The Dawn reported that Israeli actions have caused untold misery for the people of Gaza. “It is high time that the international community used its influence to bring a lasting ceasefire in Palestine. Pakistan stands by its brothers and sisters in Iran to promote peace, progress and prosperity,” he said.

  • Video Shows Moment Car Ploughs Into Liverpool Football Club Victory Parade

A car ploughed into a packed crowd celebrating Liverpool’s Premier League title victory on Monday, injuring nearly 50 people, including four children. The police have arrested a 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area in connection with the incident, but the event was not being treated as terrorism.

“We believe this to be an isolated incident, and we are not currently looking for anyone else in relation to it,” Merseyside Police Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims told a press conference.

“The incident is not being treated as terrorism,” she added.

At least 27 football fans were taken to the hospital, David Kitchin, the head of service at North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust, said. According to him, two people, one child and one adult, had “sustained serious injuries.

Police added that 20 other people with minor injuries were treated at the scene, and more were showing up at local emergency departments with injuries. Officials did not identify any of the victims.

A video of the incident has surfaced on social media showing a dark-color vehicle suddenly accelerating into the crowd. At least one person can be seen being thrown into the air, and others falling around as the car lurched forward. The video then shows the vehicle being brought to a halt and swarmed by angry fans, who broke the back windows as police sought to hold them back.
